Cristina Martin, Partner, and Carolina Parcalab, Senior Associate, Head of the Competition Law Service Line, of ACI Partners, attendees of the event bring you this update on the Conference agenda.
The Conference has gathered a wide range of arbitrators, litigators, judges, government officials and many professionals involved in dispute resolution. The agenda caught attention of the participants and a number of speakers covered the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Poland, Bulgaria as well as the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The focus was on both practical and scientific aspects of arbitration, including such matters as:
- development of arbitration in Moldova and the experience of other countries;
- arbitration from an EU Perspective;
- novels and reforms in Russian, Ukrainian, and Romanian legislation;
- pathological arbitration clauses and their interpretation;
- principles of dualism in the regulation of arbitration; and
- application of interim measures in international commercial arbitration.
In the context of arbitration yet to fully develop in Moldova, national experts correlated it to poor advertisement and unawareness of arbitration advantages as well as lack of sufficient number of professionals in the field. As such, improvement in Moldovan arbitration legislation and inclusion of arbitration in Higher Education Institutions in Moldova were offered as solutions.
Igor Odobescu, ACI Partners MP, and Cristina Martin, Partner, are Arbitrators at the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova.
